The MFP Committee is a group of more than 35 community stakeholders who worked together to evaluate the future needs of our schools and communities. They met multiple times to review data, discuss priorities, and develop a recommended plan. The MFP was facilitated by Treanor, a firm that specializes in school district facility needs.
-
Yes. The Master Facilities Planning committee was just the first step in this process. The committee has made a preliminary recommendation, not a final decision, that will be reviewed by the Board of Education. The next steps in this process will include further Board review during the spring and summer, community outreach and feedback, and then potential voter consideration at the November 2026 election.
The district is committed to a transparent process and will continue to share updates, gather input, and involve the community before any final decisions are made.
-
The district’s goals for the Master Facilities Planning process focus on improving student access to schools in their communities, reducing long commutes, expanding academic and career opportunities like CTE and STEM, strengthening student retention, investing in existing schools and facilities, and preserving community identity.
-
Families in the Lochbuie area are increasingly choosing other districts, including Brighton 27J, due to the long distance to Weld Central in Keenesburg. The recommendation aims to bring secondary education closer to home to improve access and retain students. When Re-3J loses students to other districts, the overall district is hurt as state funding is reduced—impacting teacher and staff retention, academic programs, and other areas that depend on per-pupil funding.
-
The current recommendations for Lochbuie include building a new 7-12 secondary school, reconfiguring elementary and intermediate schools to better align grade levels and student needs, improving facilities and addressing maintenance needs, and expanding CTE and STEM programs.
-
The recommendation includes transitioning Weld Central High School into a 7-12 school, reconfiguring Hoff and Hudson Elementary schools into PK-6 models, investing in safety, maintenance and athletic facilities, and expanding CTE and STEM opportunities.
-
By restructuring grade levels and expanding programs, students will have better access to advanced coursework, more career-connected learning opportunities, reduced travel time, and improved daily schedules.
-
The plan includes addressing deferred maintenance, upgrading learning environments and improving safety and infrastructure across schools, including Weld Central High School, Hoff Elementary, Hudson Elementary, Meadow Ridge Elementary, Lochbuie Intermediate Academy, and Cardinal Community Academy.
-
There will be additional opportunities for families and community members to learn more and share feedback in the coming weeks. Details will be communicated as they become available. The district will continue to add information to this web page and send information directly to residents over the coming weeks.
-
Yes. Cardinal Community Academy would receive a portion of the bond funds to address deferred maintenance and classroom improvements. State law requires districts to include charter school participation in this comprehensive process.

The Master Facilities Planning process is a community-driven effort to shape the future of our schools. A group of local stakeholders—including parents, teachers and other community members—has worked together to develop a preliminary recommendation focused on improving access, strengthening programs, and investing in school facilities.
In the months ahead, the Board of Education will review the MFP committee’s recommendations while the district continues to gather feedback from families, staff, and community members. This process is designed to be transparent and inclusive, with opportunities for the public to stay informed and share input before any potential vote in November 2026.

The vision behind this process is to create better opportunities for students by bringing schools closer to where they live, reducing long commute times, and expanding access to programs like Career and Technical Education and STEM. The plan also focuses on improving existing facilities, enhancing safety, and preserving the identity of each community.
Proposed ideas include building a new 7th through 12th grades school in Lochbuie, reconfiguring schools across the district, and upgrading learning environments to better support students and teachers. These changes are intended to provide stronger academic pathways, more career-connected learning, and a better overall school experience.
This process came from challenges and opportunities faced by our district. Too many students are choosing to attend school outside our district due to proximity and transportation barriers—and that hurts all of our schools, students and staff. It tells us that we need to align the future of school facilities to encourage our students to stay in Re-3J schools.

The Key Elements of the Recommendation Include:
Lochbuie Area
- Build a new 7–12 secondary school in Lochbuie to provide closer-to-home access for students
- Reconfigure elementary and intermediate schools to better align grade levels and student needs
- Address deferred maintenance and invest in updated learning environments
- Expand Career & Technical Education (CTE) and STEM opportunities
Hudson & Keenesburg Area
- Transition Weld Central High School into a 7–12 secondary school
- Reconfigure elementary schools into PK–6 models
- Invest in facility improvements, including safety, maintenance, and athletic upgrades
- Expand CTE/STEM programming across school
As this process continues, the district will share updates and provide ways for the community to stay involved. Your voice is an important part of planning the future of our schools.
